Built for marine insurance underwriters
Vessel due diligence in minutes, with every claim cited.
Identify a ship from a half-remembered description, then get a structured risk dossier — ownership, port state control detentions, movements, casualties and sanctions screening — compiled from public sources and linked to evidence.

Hours of tab-hopping, compressed
Registries, MoU databases, trade press and sanctions lists are researched in parallel. A full dossier typically takes under five minutes.
Evidence you can put on file
Each fact carries its source link and retrieval time. The risk summary may only use facts present in the dossier — nothing from model memory.
Your judgment, better informed
No numeric score and no accept/decline call. Flags are ranked by severity, and data gaps are listed so silence is never mistaken for safety.
Capabilities
Two ways in: describe the ship, or enter its IMO number.
“Something like Aurora, Panama flag, built around 2010…”
Brokers rarely send a clean IMO. Paste whatever you have — partial name, flag, type, build year, last port, owner or former names. The tool parses it, searches public registries, and ranks up to ten candidates with a confidence level and a one-line reason for each.
- Disambiguates sister ships and recycled names using former names and IMO continuity
- Suggests how to refine the query when nothing matches
- One click from a candidate to the full assessment
- AURORA SKYIMO 9•••••1high match
Bulk carrier · Panama · 2011 · 32,400 DWT
Name and flag match; built 2011 vs. “around 2010”; Rotterdam call last week.
- AURORA BIMO 9•••••6medium match
Bulk carrier · Liberia · 2010 · 56,000 DWT
Name and build year match; flag changed from Panama in 2023.
- NORDIC AURORAIMO 9•••••4low match
General cargo · Panama · 2009
Partial name match; not a bulk carrier.

What an assessment looks like
This illustrative dossier for a fictional bulk carrier shows the kind of picture the tool assembles: no sanctions-list hit on the vessel itself, but a pattern of re-flagging, recent detentions, a reported AIS gap and an address link to a designated company — each flag tied back to the sections that support it.
- Severity-ranked flags
- Serious, caution and info — each with a one-line rationale and links to the evidence.
- Explicit data gaps
- Beneficial ownership, crew and survey dates are listed when they can't be verified.
- Versioned and permanent
- Every dossier is stored as a point-in-time record: “what did we know when we quoted this risk?”
NORTHERN CORMORANT
IMO 1234567Bulk carrier · 2006 · Cameroon flagFresh
A 20-year-old Panamax bulk carrier re-flagged three times since 2024 and now owned by a single-ship company incorporated in 2025. Two Paris MoU detentions in the last year point to maintenance and ISM weaknesses. No sanctions list names the vessel or its owner, but the ISM manager's registered address matches an OFAC-designated company, and a 9-day AIS gap near a known ship-to-ship transfer area was reported in May 2026.
ISM manager shares a registered address with an OFAC-designated companySerious
Address match only — no direct listing of the vessel or manager.
H SanctionsC Ownership
Three flag changes in 24 monthsCaution
Comoros → Gabon → Cameroon; frequent re-flagging is a known evasion pattern.
A ParticularsC Ownership
Two PSC detentions in the last 12 monthsCaution
19 deficiencies in total, incl. fire safety and ISM.
F Inspections
9-day AIS gap reported near a known STS areaCaution
Reported by maritime press, Laconian Gulf, May 2026.
E Movements
Vessel age 20 yearsInfo
Built 2006; machinery data not publicly available.
B Technical
Every value links to its source with a retrieval timestamp, e.g. [5] Paris MoU (THETIS) detention record, retrieved 03 Oct 2026 14:02.
Built for the underwriting desk
Fast when the same ship comes back, strict when the facts change.
Instant repeat lookups
A dossier generated in the last 48 hours opens in about two seconds for anyone on the team.
Sanctions re-screen on every view
If a list update newly matches the vessel or its owner, the cached dossier is discarded and rebuilt.
Graceful with gaps
If one source is down, the dossier still completes and says exactly which section is affected.
Personal history
Every search and assessment you run is saved to your account, across devices.
Data sources
Official lists, cached and refreshed. The open web, researched live.
Sanctions and detention lists are downloaded on a schedule and screened locally — by IMO number and by owner and manager names. Everything else is researched per request from public registries, MoU databases, trade press and news, with a source policy that prefers official and established maritime publications.
English-language sources. Content fetched from the web is treated as untrusted data and never as instructions.

Frequently asked questions
Where does the information come from?+
From free public sources — vessel registries, port state control records, maritime trade press, casualty reports and mainstream news — researched live for each request, plus sanctions and detention lists we cache and refresh on a schedule (OFAC SDN, EU, UN, UK, UANI, Paris MoU and Tokyo MoU). Every fact in a dossier links to the page it came from.
Is this underwriting or compliance advice?+
No. IMO RISK accelerates the research phase. It gives no score and no accept/decline recommendation; it raises flags with their evidence and lists what could not be verified, so the decision stays with the underwriter.
How current is the sanctions screening?+
OFAC, EU, UN and UK lists refresh daily; UANI, MoU detention and abandonment lists weekly. Each dossier records the refresh time of every list used, and a cached dossier is re-screened against the latest lists before it is shown to you.
What counts as a query?+
One vessel identification (plain-text search) or one full IMO assessment. Re-opening a dossier from your history is free. If a query can't run because our research service is unavailable, it is not charged.
Do unused queries roll over?+
The daily allowance (3 on Free, 15 on Plus) resets at midnight UTC. Purchased query packs never expire and are used only after your daily allowance runs out.
Can I cancel Plus?+
Yes, anytime from Plan & billing. You keep Plus until the end of the period you've paid for.
Do you offer fleet screening?+
Fleet research — screening an entire schedule of vessels in one run — is part of our Enterprise offering. Contact sales to discuss volumes and timelines.
